Over the weekend China issued sharp words about the Nobel Prize committee via the nation's official news outlet.
Amidst this year's Nobel Peace Prize going to jailed political dissident Liu Xiaobo an unsigned editorial in Xinhua news defended the nation's human rights record and suggested that the Nobel prize has "degenerated into a political tool manipulated by the west."
Though Liu was awarded for political reform and human rights activism the editorial questioned his impact on China's 1.3 billion-strong population.
Meanwhile the Chinese government's news blackout on Liu's award began to lift last week as editorials depicted the award as a sign of an "ideological war against China".
