Starting next July Korean travelers to Japan will be able to withdraw Japanese yen at ATMs with their domestic cash cards.
A group of local financial institutions here in Korea and NTT Data a Japanese company are soon expected to sign a memorandum of understanding to connect the countries' ATM systems and begin test operations in July.
Once the network is up and running Koreans will no longer have to pay service charges on their account withdrawals or credit card transactions while in Japan.
Last year alone 2.6 million Koreans visited the country.
