People from the Indian state of Nagaland both young and old came out to see for themselves one of the first stepping stones in Korea-India cultural development.
Nagaland‚ located in India's northeastern region is one of the country's smallest states with a population of around 2-million people. Arirang Television is one of the most popular channels here and ever since the Arirang Fan Club kicked off in Nagaland last year Korean music‚ movies‚ fashion‚ and even the language have become hip with the younger crowd.
Each year Naga people from 16 different tribes celebrate the "Hornbill Festival" together in the state capital‚ Kohima. And this year Arirang TV‚ including a 15-member official delegation‚ opened a special booth under the request of the Nagaland state government coupled with sponsorship from Korea's tourism industry.
[Interview : Isak‚ VJ of Pops In Seoul] "I didn't expect this many people would come. I'm really overwhelmed to see the influence and popularity of Arirang TV in India‚ and am also surprised about how famous I seem to be here."
Young Indians ate up the music performed by the Korean stars saying music has no borders and transcends language while the adults on hand observed how cultural exchanges like these can be another form of diplomacy. A number of the participants said that the similarities between the people of the two countries is clearly evident and they welcome the burgeoning friendship.

Arirang TV has played a crucial role in promoting Korea to the world and developing the "Korean Wave" overseas. And by pursuing cultural diplomacy like this festival more and more international fans are being turned on to Korea's unique culture.
