The first international drama awards took place in Seoul‚ bringing together producers‚ actors and writers from around the world.
The Seoul Drama Awards 2006 was a three-day event that included a variety of musical and dance performances as well as a reception.
Chang Yeojeong was at the scene to bring us this report.
A total of 105 television dramas from 29 countries participated in the first global drama awards festival in Seoul.
Producers‚ actors‚ actresses and writers you name it members necessary to make a drama from all over the world were seen at the Seoul Drama Awards 2006.
Like any other award events‚ there were categories from short dramas to mini-series and best actors to best producers.
Organized by the Korean Broadcasters Association‚ the Seoul Drama Awards 2006 is an event that showcases foreign dramas‚ and at the same time promotes Korean dramas worldwide.
Korean hit dramas "My Lovely Sam-soon"‚ "Princess Hours"‚ "The Emperor of the Sea" and "Lovers in Paris" were showcased here‚ and received great applaud from the audience.
These dramas were also popular in other Asian countries on the back of Hallyu‚ Korean wave‚ or the popularity of Korean pop culture in Asia.
Though the Korean wave is only focused on Asian region in the long-run through such festivals‚ organizers of Seoul Drama Awards hope Korean dramas to become popular in other parts of the world including Europe and North America.
This year‚ a majority of the drama entries came from Asia‚ followed by Europe and North America.
In all‚ organizers of Seoul Drama Award is aiming to further spread the Korean wave.
And this event provides a venue to share Korean dramas with foreigners who haven't yet been expose to them as many Asian countries already have.
