요약정보
Iraq and Kenya were the sites of a deadly wave of violence on Sunday.
In Iraq‚ at least 32 people were killed and 100 wounded in Baghdad and multiple cities around the country through a series of coordinated car bomb attacks.
The latest wave of attacks is believed to have been carried out by Sunni Islamist groups in an attempt to undermine the Shiite regime.
The attacks were apparently carried out to show the government's inability to quell internal violence.
Although the violence in Iraq has decreased since peaking in 2006 and 2007‚ the attacks escalated again after the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country at the end of last year.
In Africa‚ a nine-year-old boy was killed and 3 other children injured when a hand grenade was thrown into a church in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Sunday.
[Interview : Irene Wambui‚ Witness ] "We were just worshipping God in church when we suddenly heard an explosion and people started running for their lives‚ but unfortunately we came to realize that the explosion had injured some kids who were taken to hospital and unfortunately one succumbed."
Police suspect Somalia's al-Shabaab Islamist militant group is responsible for the attack.
Kenya has been hit by a series of grenade and gun attacks since it sent troops into Somalia last October in pursuit of the Shabaab‚ which it blamed for kidnapping its security personnel and Western tourists.
Following the church attack‚ two police officers were shot dead in an ambush near the border with Somalia.
The killing of the police officers and the attack on the church came days after Kenyan troops launched an offensive on the southern Somali port of Kismayo‚ the last stronghold of the al-Shabaab.
