요약정보
[Reporter : ] I love winter for many reasons‚ but there are many downsides to it.
Getting up at 3 am to get to work is made more challenging for us.
Those slippery roads after snow and ice has formed means more hours when travelling the same distance.
[Reporter : ] Over in Romania‚ boats are stuck on ice.
And flood warnings are issued.
Frozen rivers are not good news for boat owners in Romania.
At the moment‚ the ice on the Danube covers a distance of 100 kilometers.
Near Chiuciu port‚ more than 25 boats are stuck some of them are damaged.
And when the ice starts moving‚ no one can predict what will happen then.
Already‚ one ship stuck in ice sank‚ as a result of a large block of ice hitting it. Thankfully‚ nobody was injured as the crew managed to save themselves.
But most of the other ships at the port fear for the worst.
Authorities have set up a crisis team to prepare a strategy for freeing the Danube river of its ice blanket.
The solution: Launch controlled detonations of ice.
Over in Madagascar‚ the Karenjy made a comeback after 17 long years.
The locally manufactured car has always been the pride of the Malagasy people‚ but unfortunately‚ the company that produced the vehicle since 1985 was dissolved.
In early 2009‚ thanks to new funding from French organisations the plant was reopened.
That means job creation for the many unemployed mechanics‚ who lost their jobs when the factory closed down.
Michel Venderier‚ a former mechanic‚ helps out by training new factory workers and helping old ones shake off the rust.
Currently‚ it takes around two weeks for the 15-employees at the plant to assemble a car.
More people in the region will be rolling out in a Karenjy‚ to promote the proud Malagasy products.
They say it is easy to drive‚ and easy on the wallet as it does not guzzle up a lot of gas.
You may find it hard to believe‚ but there exists a Russian village by the name of Sushi.
And no‚ it has nothing to do with the dish that helped put Japan on the map.
Located some 1-thousand kilometres east of Moscow the 200-year-old village once had 460 houses.
But now only 10 houses are occupied by its population of 22.
Sushi is one of many Russian villages affected by the changing times.
With agriculture and industry in a state of decay‚ villagers leave to find jobs in the city.
Interestingly‚ even in such a small community‚ opinions on Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's presidential bid are divided.
But no matter what big changes affect Russia‚ it seems unlikely that something will be done to prevent Sushi's slow decay.
