Green technology is big business today‚ and it can only grow into a bigger industry as time goes by.
One American company is seeking to seize the tsunami of opportunities to help fuel their own growth while helping the world become a little greener.
The fastest growing sector in venture capitial investing today is green technology.
Scientific Conservation Inc. or SCI‚ a small San Francisco tech company has raised nearly US 25 million dollars from venture capital investors already.
Their list of high-flying‚ globally renowned clients includes Nike and Boeing.
More and more companies around the world are willing to pay millions of dollars a year to become more energy efficient.
Not a surprising development as going green can help slash energy spendings.
SCI gather data on how a building is using energy‚ then uses its central computer system to process what can be done to help clients save up to 30 percent a year on energy bills.
According to the lunar zodiac system used by most Asian countries‚ 2011 is the year of the rabbit.
But for some reason‚ even though Vietnam is one of those nations that follow the Chinese 12-sign lunar zodiac‚ they've dumped the rabbit and chose to celebrate cats in its own version.
The debate is still on as to what led to this alteration.
One theory is that it is the result of a translation error.
Another possible reason for intentionally using cats over rabbits is the contrasting culture in China and Vietnam.
While rabbits are considered to be one of the happiest signs in China‚ over in Vietnam they're considered mere food items.
One thing for certain is that the Vietnamese people clearly prefer the image of cats over rabbits.
Already an increasing number of Vietnamese are buying cats to keep as pets to celebrate the year of the cat.
Also‚ various celebrations including fashion shows with cats as the core theme are being held as well.
Designer Lucrecia Lovera has made a name for herself in the fashion world thanks to her line of bags made using recycled material called "Retape."
Her crotched or woven bags are created using video tapes as basic materials.
The 29-year-old Argentine artist came to Berlin about a year and a half ago and started out with virtually nothing but her bare hands.
Lack of funds led her to be creative with whatever material she could easily find on the streets.
First she experimented with plastic bags and ropes and then later on‚ thanks to a friend's tip‚ she chose video tapes as the ingredient to her success.
Initially her friend suggested audio tapes‚ but brown was not Lovera's favorite color‚ so she searched a little harder and found the right hue in video tapes.
Video tape has the advantage of being water-proof‚ elastic and very sturdy.
Combined with leather or wool Lovera's collection of bags are fun for her to create and a delight for their would-be owners to carry.
Lovera aims to go further with her concept‚ and develop dresses made of video tapes.
