요약정보
The Philippines… the first Asian country to establish diplomatic ties with South Korea back in 1949… dispatched over 7-thousand soldiers to Korea during the Korean War.
The Philippine troops who fought courageously were once again remembered by members of a Korean non-profit organization named the H2O.
Nearly 1-hundred members led by its chairman Lee Kyung-jae paid tribute to the veterans who sacrificed their lives for people they had never known or even seen before… all in the spirit of ‘pumasi’… a Korean word meaning ‘exchange of work.’
[Interview : Lee Kyung-jae‚ Chairman
H2O] “When the Korean War broke out‚ the Philippines sent us many troops to help Korea secure freedom. As their sacrifice contributed largely to Korea’s prosperity‚ we have initiated the Pumasi Movement. With the hope of helping the nation to prosper‚ we chose to lend a helping hand to the Philippines.”
Now… with the launch of such a movement based on the thought of sharing… many locals here wish that this will help foster closer ties between the two countries.
[Interview : Pat Viloria‚ President
PEFTOK Veterans Association] “With the Pumasi Movement launched in the Philippines‚ we believe that we can further strengthen a strong relationship and friendship between the Philippines and Korea.”
After conveying their full gratitude… members of the organization volunteered at an education center in Candaba… just a two hours drive from the capital… Manila.
Ranging from computer lessons to balloon art classes… the group had lots to offer to local residents.
[Interview : Yoo Jae-yeon‚ Volunteer member
H2O] “We are here to share the knowledge and skills that we have with those living here in the Philippines. I am very grateful that I can carry out the Pumasi Movement‚ although I am still a college student.”
The four-day program ending on January 15th wishes to give what Korea has to the Philippines… as Korea is now a recipient-turned-donor country.
[Reporter : Kim Hyo-sun] “Both Seoul and Manila hope to see the first Pumasi Campaign serve as a catalyst for further global co-prosperity.
