[Reporter : ] It's never easy to part ways with personal belongings that have been a big part of one's life.
But a legendary American singer-songwriter decided to bid farewell to some of her treasured guitars with a little help from Christie's.
Judy Collins decided it was time to unclutter her New York apartment and it seems like her decision came just in time for Christie's autumn Fine Music Sale.
Eight guitars and an autoharp from the legendary artist will headline the upcoming auction come October 9th.
Fans and musicians will be looking forward to this chance to own a 1939 six string Martin D-28 which Collins used extensively to record hits like "Whales and Nightingales" back in the late 60s and 70s‚ as well as the autoharp she played during her appearance in Sesame Street.
The 71-year-old singer who earned her fame through her interpretive folk singing and contemporary themes is still going strong‚ with around 100 performances held annually.
She hopes that the new owners of her instruments will create new music with them‚ rather than to frame them up as part of a collection.
Rapidly aging population is an issue of growing concern in most Latin American countries.
The situation is most serious in Bolivia as the population is aging three times faster than in most developed countries.
Seniors in Bolivia are struggling to find the security and comfort they desire.
This trend is stronger than ever today as a rapidly increasing number of young people leave the rural parts in search of jobs in urban centers or in other countries.
That means there are less and less young people that could care for the senior citizens still involved in farming activities in the rural parts.
Unfortunately‚ there has been a lack of necessary government programs that can cater to the needs of the growing elderly population.
Some of the bright spots are the Awicha program and efforts by organizations like HELPAGE International.
These programs and organizations are working hard to help senior citizens gain access to government care and pensions they deserve.
More than 2000 amazing inventions from almost 600 companies around the world are featured in this year's Taiwan's International Invention Show and Technomart.
This year's theme is Green Future‚ Smart Life‚ Biotech and Medicare.
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense displayed their invention which collects wasted heat energy and converts it into electricity.
The system can be installed over exhaust pipes of cars and even deep-fry carts used by street vendors.
The heat-recycling system creates enough electricity to power a light source‚ an exhaust fan and more.
Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute unveiled their new biofuel system.
The system can continually extract oil and filter out residue from micro-algae which is 85 percent water.
The main benefit of using micro-algae is the fact that unlike soy beans or other food substances‚ concerns of food competition with humans is eliminated.
