요약정보
Many male species in the animal kingdom battle for females' attention through mating dances.
Scientists in England are carrying out studies to find out what type of specific male dance movements are interpreted as attractive in the human female's perspective.
A team of researchers led by psychologist Dr. Nick Neave of Britain's Northumbria University video-taped 19 men aged between 18 and 35 who were made to dance to a basic rhythm‚ using a 3-D camera system.
Their movements were mapped onto featureless‚ gender-neutral humanoid characters‚ which some might refer to as avatars.
37 heterosexual women rated the dance moves of these avatars.
The ladies involved in the experiment could only rate the male performers based solely on the movements‚ since no indication of the men's attractiveness was provided.
The study found eight movement variables that determined a good dancer in the eyes of the opposite sex.
These include the size of the movement of the neck‚ trunk‚ left shoulder and wrist‚ and the speed of the movement of the right knee.
Such movements are believed to be related to a man's reproductive quality‚ and knowing the right moves could improve a man's chances of attracting women.
Over in Chad‚ many AIDS victims have been abandoned by families‚ friends and communities.
Naturally more and more HIV positive people try to hide their condition‚ which means they do not get to receive the proper medical treatment or counseling which are provided for free by the government.
A manager of a restaurant and the Association of Social Marketing in Chad devised an effective way to educate people about the disease and provide venues where HIV carriers are accepted as equals.
Their restaurant hires HIV positive staff and deliberately let clients know about this fact.
For the past 3 years‚ regular clients of the restaurant have increased steadily‚ which means the venture is good for the business as well as the employees.
This is one big step in the fight to break down the stigmatization of the disease.
Over in Brazil‚ a new type of physiotherapy involving pink dolphins is being tested.
For the past three years‚ Igor Simoes has been taking handicapped and mentally-ill children to swim with the endangered dolphins.
This alternative therapy has proving to be a win-win experience‚ as it can help the children develop physically and emotionally‚ while the dolphins apparently enjoy being near children.0008‚0000‚
These compassionate creatures are free to come and go as they please‚ and so far the dolphins almost always come join the patients willingly.
Although there is no solid scientific evidence yet‚ the sound waves emitted by the dolphins are believed to stimulate healing.
12-year-old Leonardo de Souza who was born without arms and has truncated legs‚ has developed a lot of his balance‚ psychomotor skills and confidence through the free therapy and can now play soccer and video games with ease.
