[Reporter : ] There were many fine works of art that went under the hammer during a recent Christie's auction.
But one Picasso oil painting upstaged them all‚ by setting a new world record for art sold at auctions.
At Christie's Impressionist Auction in New York‚ a large-scale oil painting of Picasso's mistress from 1932 titled "Nude‚ Green Leaves and Bust" fetched 106.5 million US dollars.
Considering the fact that the entire sale this day adds up to 335.5 million dollars‚ it's clear that this was the piece that stood head and shoulders above all other world-class collections assembled for sale on this day.
The previous world record was held by Giacometti's "Walking Man I" which was sold for 104.3 million dollars at Sotheby's London.
This is the first time that the Picasso piece was revealed to public in almost 50 years.
The bid was kept close between eight art lovers‚ but in the end it went to a buyer who took part in the auction via telephone.
He or she chose to remain anonymous.
Works of famed Italian painter Giotto are displayed in the Monte Frumentario palace in 3D.
Organizers chose to focus on St. Francis Cycle which is made up of 28 scenes from the life of the Franciscan saint.
Thanks to 3D technology and touch screens‚ visitors can now better experience this piece.
It is believed that the technology provides people with a chance to view and experience Giotto's works in greater detail and truly appreciate his naturalistic style.
And over in the Chapel of Saint Nicholas‚ where some of Giotto's 700-year-old frescoes are being restored‚ visitors are invited to climb the scaffolding to watch the process.
This is a wonderful development for art enthusiasts‚ as they will finally get to enjoy the kind of experience that was exclusively reserved for restorers‚ historians and journalists.
In spite of record high gold prices and decline in jewelry purchases‚ the turnout was incredible at the Muscat International Gold and Jewelry Exhibition.
More than 95 companies and galleries took part in this year's event which was held at the Oman International Exhibition Center.
The five-day event is held with the hope of stimulating the jewelry industry and boosting the local economy.
It is also a great mixer for dealers and designers from around the world‚ as they can get together and exchange ideas on the latest innovations and designs‚ as well as develop relationships with other sectors.
For consumers‚ the exhibition provided the opportunity to browse and purchase the latest in jewelry design‚ including the ones that are not available in the market yet.
Many participating companies agreed that this year's event was by far superior to the previous ones held in Oman and Bahrain.
