요약정보
Brazil has plans to double its wind power capacity this year.
For centuries strong winds have propelled fishing boats off the Brazilian coast.
And now large wind turbines can be seen spotted along the coast in the nation's northeast.
Latin America's largest economic power is hoping that wind power will help put some wind in the sails of the nation's future.
85 percent of Brazil's power currently comes from hydroelectric dams.
But there are concerns that increasing costs along with environmental damage to the Amazon rainforest will limit future capacity.
In the next 30 years Brazil needs to double its ability to generate power in order to avoid power blackouts.
The good news is that industry executives claim that wind power has the potential to create 10 times the energy produced by the nation's largest hydroelectric project.
And so for now the government is focusing on building its supply steadily year by year.
In Kenya puppets are bringing current affairs and social issues to the public.
A local television station has created a television show called "XYZ" that features life-sized puppets in the shape of top newsmakers.
Though it is often categorized as a comedy show the show's creator insists the program gives an important voice to marginalized citizens through its political satire.
Audiences can chuckle at the lampooning of the nation's leaders and reflect upon a variety of social quirks.
Constructing the puppets was no easy task.
Many of the materials such as the eyes and latex mixtures for the faces and hands were imported from Europe.
Some viewers say that the show will help push leaders to produce positive results while others say the show is too indirect in its message.
The weekly show will be aired for 13 episodes in its first season.
At the Galleria Borghese in Rome visitors have long been able to enjoy precious paintings by artists such as Bernini or Caravaggio.
But now the 17th century villa and museum is showcasing hundreds of endangered butterflies in its grand birdcage.
Guests can get an up-close look at the butterflies and can observe the unique butterfly life cycle.
The event hopes to dispel some butterfly myths and to bring attention to the increasing threat of environmental change on butterfly populations.
One of the myths includes the popular belief that butterflies live only for one or two days.
In fact most butterflies can live up to two weeks in protected environments.
However local environments are no longer suitable and with temperatures rising scientists believe that approximately 60 European species have fled north.
For the brave of heart the event even allows patrons to hold live moths‚ silkworms and stick insects in their hands.
