A senior North Korean sports official says North Korea would like the opportunity to co-host the 2018 Winter Olympics that will be held in the South Korean town of Pyeongchang.
When asked by reporters in Tokyo Wednesday about the possibility of the North co-hosting some of the events with Pyeongchang‚ Jang Ung ‚ a North Korean member of the International Olympic Committee‚ said that he hoped it could happen.
Jang‚ who is in Tokyo to attend the general assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia‚ added that Pyeongchang's win was "positive" for Asia.
The North Korean official also expressed hope that the strained political situation on the Korean Peninsula could improve so that tensions do not negatively affect the Winter Olympics in 2018.
