July 12th marked the six-month anniversary of the monstrous 7.0 magnitude earthquake that ravaged the small Caribbean island nation of Haiti.
In the capital city of Port-au-Prince‚ rubble from the demolished roads and buildings remind people of that catastrophic day‚ which claimed the lives of at least 220-thousand people and robbed more than a million others of their homes.
Amid mounting criticism that the Haitian government has come short of attending to all those displaced by the disaster‚ former US President and UN special envoy to Haiti‚ Bill Clinton‚ visited the quake-torn nation to commend the relief efforts made thus far.

The rate of delivering emergency aid such as tents‚ water‚ food‚ and health care‚ however‚ has not been fast enough to care for hundreds of thousands of families who call makeshift tents their new home.
[Interview : Rene Preval‚ Haitian President] "Today‚ we continue to help these people still in the camp. We want to officially launch the reconstruction phase to allow these people to get out of the tents."
While the next step in Haiti's reconstruction plan is to assist those without a residence to move into a safer and long-term shelter‚ the seasonal hurricanes expected this time of year are delaying the transfer process‚ as well as the reconstruction of roads and buildings.
Moreover‚ it is estimated that up to 10-billion US dollars worth of aid funds pledged by some 50 countries following the quake in January have not made their way into reaching those in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
