In other news today‚ a Korean court ruled in favor of a group of Korean Vietnam War veterans' for their medical claims against the manufacturers of a powerful herbicide used by the U.S. military during the war.
The Seoul High Court ordered the two American companies‚ Dow Chemical and Monsanto‚ to pay 62 million U.S. dollars for manufacturing the highly cancerous defoliant dubbed Agent Orange‚ to 6‚800 plaintiffs‚ including family members.
The judge presiding over the case said it's hard to ignore the cause and effect relationship between Agent Orange and diseases suffered by victims exposed to the chemical‚ including cancers‚ deformities and neurological disorders.
The U.S. military reportedly sprayed over 72 million liters of Agent Orange over Vietnamese jungles‚ to destroy enemy cover for ten years from 1961.
