A 17th-century Korean porcelain‚ with underglaze iron-brown decoration of a dragon‚ has been sold for the highest artwork bid price ever in Korea.
The white porcelain‚ known as "baekja" in Korean‚ was sold for 1.6 billion won‚ or 1.6 million U.S. dollars‚ at the Seoul Auction House on Thursday.
It is appraised to have an exquisite combination of pictorial and formative art‚ in portraying the three-legged mythical creature.
The previous record-holding piece was a blue porcelain‚ believed to be made during Koryeo Dynasty‚ sold for nearly 1.1 billion won in 2004.
