Amid the mounting debt crisis in Europe‚ Belgium added its support to calls for joint euro bonds.
Belgian Finance Minister Didier Reynders said Friday that Europe should issue debt jointly and expand its bailout fund to ease ongoing market chaos in vulnerable debtor countries.
High-debt nations like Greece‚ Spain and Italy have been promoting a joint euro bond as the only way out of the current fiscal crisis.
However‚ German Chancellor Angela Merkel said euro bonds would leave everyone worse off‚ while France President Nicolas Sarkozy echoed a similar view‚ saying that common euro zone bonds without further fiscal consolidation could threaten France's triple-A credit rating.
