On the northwestern Mediterranean coast of Algeria in Oran city the biggest fertilizer plant in the world is currently under construction.
The 2.4 billion US dollar project is jointly run by the Algerian and Oman governments but an order worth roughly a quarter of the work is received by a Korean construction firm.
Daewoo Engineering & Construction began working in October 2008 which was the first time that a domestic firm won a contract in Algeria since the 1990s.

Daewoo Engineering & Construction] "About 37 percent of the work has been completed so far. The project is expected to due in January 2012."
Korean companies have been receiving orders from the Middle Eastern countries so far but as the market there was getting saturated domestic firms were looking for a niche market.
And as a result increasing number of Korean construction companies including Hanwha ‚ Samsung and Hyundai are receiving orders from Algeria.
Local construction managers say it indicates the improved evaluations for technical skills of Korean firms in Africa.

Algerian] "We found out that Korean companies have advantages in price competition and when Daewoo finishes this project‚ other Korean companies would have more opportunities to work in Algeria."
Furthermore‚ increasing number of Korean frims are receiving orders from north Africa such as Lybia‚ Morocco and Egypt.
The total amount of orders were worth about 2-hundred-40 million dollars in 2005 but the volume reached over 6.8 billion dollars in 2009.
