Here's my selfie stick. My cell phone company gave it to me for free at the airport before going on vacation.
But I've never used it. Can you show us?
I've always wondered how these sticks work.
If your smartphone doesn't come with a timer camera function‚ then you can download a timer app. OR you can spend a little more and get one with a bluetooth remote. But this one doesn't. So I activated the app. Smile
With or without these selfie sticks‚ certainly selfies are mainstream now.
I call this a "narcisstick." I think selfies are definitely a form of narcissism.
Why? These sticks are helpful. They help get more background in so you can get a better selfie for your Facebook or Twitter postings. Triggers a good dialogue as to why I took this selfie and what I was feeling.
That's true but there are many who are linking selfies with the concept of narcissism.
I spoke to a psychology professor
And he said HERE IN KOREA‚ many are hyper wired and connected‚ and they tend to feel as if they NEED to present a better side of themselves.
"The selfies that are being taken by the majority of Koreans are hardly an act of narcissism. A small study of selfie takers shows they are partly influenced by their own insecurities about their appearance. So they are taking selfies in a way they think is a good representation of them."
Basically‚ he was saying the psychology behind KOREANS' selfies could be a little different from narcissism because they care too much about how they are perceived in other people's eyes.
If you do anything excessively‚ that's not good. But I think the selfies are certainly a phenomenon to keep an eye on and these selfie sticks are one of the by-products of this phenomenon of people wanting to express themselves in this digital age.
