The United States is redoubling efforts to target Iran's oil revenues.
A group of 17 U.S. Senators said Thursday that Washington will not sell oil from its emergency reserves to foreign companies that trade oil with Iran.
The Senators have unveiled a bill that would constrict Tehran's oil revenues. to pressure the country to give up its nuclear program.
Meanwhile‚ the White House says the Iran sanctions are NOT aimed at oil markets.
White House spokesperson Jay Carney said the sanctions-- proposed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama-- should be enforced in a way that does not hurt the U.S' allies or disrupt oil markets.
