The main opposition Liberal Democratic Party of Japan says it will allow four party members to visit Korea's eastern Ulleung Island early next week.. where they are expected to make false territorial claims to the Korean islets of Dokdo.
According to Kyodo News and Sankei Shimbun Friday‚ party leaders have given up trying to persuade the lawmakers to cancel their visit‚ and have decided to allow them to take the trip providing that it is not formally associated with the party.
So the group led by House Representative Yoshitaka Shindo is scheduled to embark on a four-day trip to Korea starting next Monday.
The Korean government is continuing to strongly protest the visit saying the Japanese lawmakers could be in danger and Seoul is urging Tokyo to persuade the legislators to refrain from making the trip.
