The Associated Press will open a news bureau in the North Korean capital Pyeongyang becoming the first Western news organization to permanently operate in North Korea.
In a statement Wednesday‚ the American news agency said it signed a series of agreements with North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency including one to open an AP news bureau in Pyeongyang.
AP President and CEO Tom Curley called the agreement "historic and significant".
The release also said AP will be designated as the exclusive distributor of contemporary and historic video from the KCNA’s archives providing a new source of video content from North Korea to viewers around the world.
