Ways to enhance both the security and safety of nuclear energy will be the major topics of discussion by world leaders at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul next March.
And on Monday‚ South Korea's Foreign Minister‚ Kim Sung-hwan‚ at a meeting with negotiators preparing for the items to be discussed at the gathering said that Japan's nuclear disaster this year proved the absolute importance of nuclear safety.
Kim elaborated by saying that the Fukushima crisis could turn into an opportunity as the world is now making efforts to ensure safety of atomic energy.
Other discussion topics are set to include securing all of the world's vulnerable atomic materials‚ preventing terrorists from obtaining nuclear materials‚ and detecting the illegal trade of nuclear goods.
He also said that Seoul hosting the summit next year holds special significance as South Korea has been seeking a nuclear-free world‚ despite continuous nuclear threats from North Korea.
Seoul was chosen in April 2010 to host the next Nuclear Security Summit.
