Multiple labor unions will be allowed to operate within a single workplace from July 1st‚ in a move that is expected to bring about a new era in labor-management relations.
With the adoption of the multiple trade union system‚ employees can freely set up more than one labor union per company.
The multiple union system was prohibited during the Park Chung-hee dictatorship in 1963.
The government expects the new system will guarantee workers’ freedom of association on a larger level‚ but some have expressed concern that the new system will lead to more heated labor-related conflicts.
