On the fourth day of his trip to the United States‚ South Korea's Foreign Minister‚ Kim Sung-hwan‚ sat down with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington on Friday‚ local time‚ to discuss the two countries' joint strategy on North Korea.
There‚ Clinton said that as of now‚ Washington has no plan to provide food aid to the impoverished nation.

She also said that while the US remains open to direct engagement with North Korea‚ Washington's position that Pyeongyang must first show efforts to improve its relations with Seoul still remains firm.
And foreign minister Kim said that Seoul and Washington have agreed to pursue dialogue with the North‚ adding that the secretive state must demonstrate its sincerity towards denuclearization through concrete actions before the resumption of the long-stalled six-party nuclear talks.
[Interview : Kim Sung-hwan‚ S. Korean Foreign Minister] "We concurred that as the essential first step there needs to be sincere and constructive inter-Korean dialogue on denuclearization."
Meanwhile‚ during the meeting‚ South Korea and the United States also signed a development cooperation deal‚ vowing to work together to promote efficiency in aid delivery‚ particularly in central Africa.
Clinton‚ while stressing South Korea's emergence as a donor country‚ told reporters that its fast economic growth after the Korean War to become a leading economy is one of the great success stories of the 20th century.
