The Korean government is considering abolishing the statue of limitation period for corruption cases involving public servants.
The current law stipulates the statue of limitation is two years for general corruption and five years for bribery and embezzlement.
Government sources say this has hindered bringing justice to public officials caught commiting these crimes during internal audits.
The move comes after President Lee Myung-bak criticized corruption scandals involving government officials last Friday at a ministerial meeting.
The government plans to also come up with other measures to toughen penalties for corrupt public servants.
