School trips are an important part of any elementary‚ middle‚ or high school curriculum in Korea.
The students have prepared well‚ armed with bags full of snacks for the road.
School trips in elementary school are particularly meaningful because it's the first time that children leave on a trip with their friends and teachers‚ away from their parents.
[Interview : Yang Hui-seon‚ Parent] "The kids are going on a school trip‚ so I wanted to send them off."

All of the sixth graders in the school will be leaving together for a three-day trip.
These students from Ulsan will be leaving for Seoul‚ which is about a five-hour drive away. School trips are usually taken to places that are far away from the students' hometowns.
The teachers liven up the atmosphere with some games to keep the students amused during the long bus ride.
The bus fills with laughter in no time.

School trips are a historic part of Korea's school culture‚ and they are not just about the fun and games! Teachers emphasize that school trips represent a special educational opportunity that is not available in the classroom.
[Interview : Kim Yeon-deuk‚ Principal] "School trips are meant to give the students an opportunity to experience firsthand the things that they cannot learn in the classroom."
After a long wait‚ the students arrive at their first destination - an amusement park!

[Interview : ] "This is an amusement park!"
The students are amazed by the colorful sights at the amusement park! They make sure to enjoy each moment to the fullest.
They get on all of the rides without hesitation.

[Interview : ] "It was really fun! Super exciting!"
[Interview : ] "It's so scary. I can't describe it in words."
While the students are having fun‚ their teachers become even busier.
The teachers are also busy making sure that no one gets hurt in the amusement park.
Because they are traveling with so many students‚ it's difficult to keep track of the schedule.
[Interview : Kim Beom-hwan‚ Teacher] "The activities are taking place outside of school‚ in a very different environment‚ so there are a lot of factors to keep in mind. It's great for the kids to have fun‚ but of course we're always worried about safety."
The long day is over‚ and the students are getting ready for bed.
But that doesn't mean that they're going to relax.
Even after running around all day‚ the students still have the energy to run around in their rooms.

[Interview : ] "Normally‚ my friends and I go our separate ways as soon as school ends. But since we're on a school trip‚ we can spend all day together and even sleep together. I think we're getting a lot closer."

And so the first day ends.
The next day‚ the students visit the National Assembly Building.
