요약정보
Children lay curious eyes on these frogs‚ toads and tadpoles as they get a good look at them in real life.
And they didn't have to go out to a rural area to catch a glimpse of these critters but are actually right here in Seoul.
As one of its ways to restore the capital's ecosystem‚ the Seoul city government decided to release thousands of tadpoles‚ frogs and toads on Wednesday.
[Interview : Jung Hung-soon‚ Nature & Ecology Chief
Seoul Metropolitan Govt.] "Since 2005 we have worked to expand and improve the habitat for animals and insects and also released fireflies and frogs every year to maintain the ecology."
Amphibians such as frogs and toads are said to be in the middle of the food chain and hence play a pivotal role in the ecosystem.
Experts say a decline in the amphibian population could lead to an out-of-balanced ecology.
The city also released birds into the wild for the first time.
In northeast Seoul‚ 15 ring-necked pheasants‚ Korea's natural monument number 327‚ and five mandarin ducks were released in a forest near a small lake.

And the kids who came to witness this incredible moment‚ wished the birds long happy lives.
[Interview : ] "We came to release the birds today. We hope these birds will live happily here."
In total‚ some 27-thousand animals and insects will be sent back into nature in various parts of Seoul until next week and hopes are high that these efforts will contribute to maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
