The National Assembly's Education Committee has approved a bill banning private colleges from diverting tuition to their reserve funds.
When applied to the 10 private colleges with the highest reserve funds‚ the revision is estimated to keep about 160 billion won‚ or 149 million US dollars‚ from being diverted.
The committee says the ban could help prevent an excessive accumulation of reserve funds allowing more money to be used for scholarships and research funds instead.
