The prosecutors' office has decided to take back roughly 8-and-a-half billion won‚ or 7.9 million US dollars‚ that was illegally withdrawn from Busan Savings Bank and its five affiliates before they were suspended in February for liquidity shortages.
A senior prosecutor at the office's central investigation unit of the confirmed on Tuesday that three Busan Savings Bank executives tipped off their high-end clients about the bank's upcoming suspension‚ enabling them to withdraw money in advance and avoid any financial losses.
The money retrieved will be redistributed mainly to customers who were unable to take out their money before the bank was shut down.
Meanwhile‚ no evidence has been found regarding allegations that officials working for government regulators leaked information to the bank prior to its suspension.
