It is a common misconception that there are no fresh strawberries left by the end of spring‚ but farmers here in Yanggu‚ Gangwon province‚ start harvesting strawberries from the early summer until the end of the year.
This has been made possible by the raised bed culture system‚ in which strawberries are grown in bed boxes installed 1.5 meters above ground.
Strawberries raised in this elevated environment are more resistant to pests and diseases‚ and are highly sought after in the baking market‚ as the strawberries last longer and are perfect for decorating cakes.

Yanggu district‚ Gangwon province] "The baking industry favors Yanggu strawberries‚ as they are grown in a clean and organic environment. The berries secure us a stable source of income."
The only setback to this system is the initial facility cost.
100-thousand won‚ or about 90 US dollars‚ is needed to install 3.3 square meters‚ or 35 square feet‚ of the raised bed system.

And this delicious and lucrative fruit is yielding high return for the farmers regardless of the season.
