We begin with news of a plane crash in Russia
A passenger jet carrying 52 passengers and crew crashed late Monday night‚ local time on a highway in northwestern Russia killing 44 people.
Russia's Emergencies Ministry said early Tuesdaythat the Tu-134 plane‚ operated by RusAir‚ crash-landed on its final approach while en route from Moscow to the city of Petrozavodsk.
There was no immediate explaination for the crash‚ but the Interfax news agency quoted airport director Alexei Kuzmitsky as saying that there were "unfavorable weather conditions" at the time of the accident.
The Russian government said that the plane crashed just one to two kilometers short of the airport in Petrozavodsk‚ but the reason remains unclear at the moment.
