The Ministry of Land‚ Transport and Maritime Affairs recently submitted a budget proposal to President Lee Myung-bak that says about 240 billion won‚ which is roughly about 220 million US dollars will be spent every year to maintain the country's four major rivers.

The ministry explained that a higher budget is needed to monitor and maintain increased facilities and areas due to the four-river restoration project that was launched in 2009 to improve the country's overall water management.
