Lawmaker Hyun Gyoung-byoung has lost his seat at the National Assembly over illegal political funds.
The Supreme Court ruled to uphold an appellate court's decision to fine the ruling Grand National Party's Hyun for receiving some 30 million won in illegal political funds from a golf course owner from 2008 to 2009 and levied a fine of 3 million won or roughly 28-hundred US dollars.
Korean law on political funds stipulates that a lawmaker who was handed down a sentence of 1 million won or higher in fines will lose his or her status as a legislator.
