According to South Korea's chief nuclear envoy‚ Wi Sung-lac‚ who returned home from Beijing on Thursday China agreed that inter-Korean dialogue is of the utmost importance.
Speaking with reporters upon his arrival Wi said he reiterated to his Chinese counterpart‚ Wu Dawei‚ that the resumption of talks between Seoul and Pyeongyang should be the starting point of any bilateral or multilateral discussions aimed at resuming the stalled six-party nuclear talks.
South Korea's nuclear envoy also said that Wu was not opposed to Seoul's three-step procedure to bring Pyeongyang back to the table.
On Friday in Seoul Wi is scheduled to meet with Russia's deputy nuclear negotiator and Washington's Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs‚ Kurt Campbell.
