With Korea's agriculture ministry already conducting inspections on all imported Japanese animal and fish products‚ the city of Seoul has rolled up its sleeves to put people's fears at ease.
In addition to the government's inspection at the import point‚ city officials have started to run tests on products going out from major wholesale markets in the capital.

Seoul Metropolitan Government] "Because people tend to worry more at times like this‚ we decided to bring in portable devices to inspect the contamination level of the products."
The measuring device checks the overall radiation level in the air that could have been affected by radioactive iodine or cesium.
So‚ if brought near a contaminated product it will give off an alarm and the product will be sent to a research institute for further tests.
At Garak Market‚ one of the major agro-fishery distribution sites in Seoul‚ officials who have been conducting tests since Monday say that no radiation levels above the safety norm have been detected so far.
However‚ merchants worry that consumers will tend to avoid Japanese products.

Garak Market] "Consumers are extra cautious due to the radiation disaster in Japan‚ but I'm hoping that these daily inspections will reassure them that the products are safe."
Every single product from Japan will go through radiation inspections and even some domestic products will now be checked on a regular basis.
