The Chairman of Samhwa Mutual Savings Bank‚ Shin Sam-gil‚ was arrested Tuesday afternoon for illegally extending loans to certain companies.
Shin is accused of embezzling money by charging interest on the illegal loans as well.
He was also on the wanted list for defaulting on a fine of 15-billion won‚ or around 13-and a-half million US dollars‚ for evading taxes last year.
Samhwa Mutual Savings Bank was suspended on lack of liquidity‚ was acquired by Woori Financial Group and resumed operations this past Friday as Woori FG Savings Bank.
