On the second day of his three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates Korean President Lee Myung-bak and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a bilateral summit Sunday afternoon.
During the one-on-one the two leaders positively reviewed the progress of their strategic partnership forged back in December 2009.
The two sides held in-depth discussions on ways to maintain cooperative ties in various sectors‚ including energy‚ construction and the environment‚ and expand the scope into other fields‚ such as national defense and new growth engines.
They also presided over the signing of memoranda of understanding on promoting collaboration in health and medicine as well as the Global Green Growth Institute.
Bilateral ties between the two countries have developed further over the years backed by a 40 billion US dollar deal inked between the two countries in 2009.
Under the contract‚ Korea will build and operate four nuclear reactors in the Middle Eastern country.
Also‚ a battalion of some 130 Korean troops has been dispatched to the UAE for a two-year mission to train local soldiers and conduct joint drills.
