Powerful aftershocks continue to rattle Japan's east coastal regions‚ with the latest 6.2 quake recorded from a depth of 24.5 kilometers at 10:26 a.m. Sunday morning‚ some 1-hundred-79 kilometers east of the capital Tokyo.
And the US Geological Survey had earlier said an aftershock with a magnitude of 6 was observed along the Pacific coast at around 2:20 a.m. Sunday‚ local time.
This was preceded by a series of shocks posting magnitudes of 4.3 to 6.4 in the Ibaraki‚ Nigata‚ Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures late Saturday night.
According to the USGS‚ some 1-hundred-50 aftershocks have been witnessed since Friday.
