It looks like China could loosen its family planning policy within the next four years.
According to Wang Yuqing‚ deputy director of the country's Population‚ Resources and Environment Committee‚ the Chinese government is currently looking into abolishing its one-child policy and allowing two children per family in an effort to rebuild a balance between the young and old populations.
The official said big cities like Beijing and Shanghai have been struggling from low birth rates and added that the high cost of raising a child will keep the birth rate at a stable level.
Various studies are currently being conducted with the two-children policy to be introduced as early as 2015.
