The "zombie" computers that were used in the distributed denial-of-service‚ or DDoS attacks against South Korean websites on Friday‚ have begun destroying the hard drives of the PCs they infected.
The government says that the PCs infected with the malicious code have received new orders that block their access to vaccination sites and destroy hard drives.
The Korea Communications Commission said that the command was expected to be carried out four to seven days after the initial infection but seems to have been ordered early as last weekend's DDoS attacks failed to majorly disrupt Korean portals.
Police‚ meanwhile‚ have isolated 30 overseas servers that were ordering the attacks.
These servers have been traced to 18 countries including the US‚ Russia‚ Italy‚ Mexico‚ Israel and Hong Kong.
Officials say that some 77-thousand computers were found to have been used for the DDoS attacks since Friday and as of Monday morning‚ 114 cases of hard disk destruction have been reported.
Users are strongly advised to check their computers and to download vaccines if necessary.
