요약정보
Mobile phone users here in Seoul and nearby northwestern cities like Incheon and Paju were confused on Friday and Sunday because the time on their phones were wrong.
Korea's intelligence and military officials said on Sunday that strong jamming signals are believed to have been sent from North Korea's military facilities in Haeju and Gaeseong in an attempt to interrupt Seoul and Washington's annual joint military exercise‚ the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle‚ which has been taking place since last week.
The signals are said to have been sent sporadically every five to ten minutes causing minor disruptions in mobile phones and navigational military devices using global positioning system‚ or GPS.
This is not the first time the communist state has sent jamming signals to the South.
In August last year‚ right after the Ulchi-Freedom Guardian joint military exercise‚ some areas along South Korea's west coast experienced GPS malfunctioning due to the North's disruptive signals.
Meanwhile‚ government officials added that they are looking into the possibility of North Korea's involvement in Friday's distributed denial-of-service‚ or DDos‚ cyber attacks that hit around 40 Korean government and banking websites.
All Internet users are urged to start their computers on "safe mode‚" then download special anti-software from an official website immediately in order to prevent further attacks.
