Four out of 31 North Koreans who were found on a boat nearby South Korea's western Yeonpyeong Island last month have reportedly expressed wishes to defect‚ while the rest of them and their vessel are scheduled to return to the North on Friday.
The South Korean Red Cross sent a message on Thursday‚ informing its northern counterpart of plans to repatriate 27 North Koreans through the truce village of Panmunjeom and their fishing boat in the waters close to Yeonpyeong Island.
There are concerns over whether the latest development would further strain inter-Korean relations as Pyeongyang requested that Seoul quickly send back its citizens‚ but Seoul responded it will respect the North Koreans' individual intentions whether those are to remain in the South or not.
