The European Parliament's trade committee has approved its motion on the Korea-European Union Free Trade Agreement.
The committee voted overwhelmingly‚ with 21 votes for and four against during a meeting in Brussels on Monday.
On January 26th the safeguard provisions passed European Parliament with no objections raised among those taking part in the vote.
The deal will now go to the European Parliament's plenary session to be voted on in Strasbourg‚ France on February 17th.
The trade deal‚ which was agreed between Korea and the EU in October 2009 aims to eliminate 98-percent of import duties and other trade barriers between Seoul and the European trading bloc.
It will take effect on July 1st this year if given final approval by both parliaments.
