Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan had a reception with the Seoul Diplomatic Corps
to discuss the direction of Korea's foreign policy for 2011.
Minister Kim focused on four aspects of Korean diplomacy‚ including the
ever-important issue of security continuously emphasized by
President Lee Myung-back. Why don't we take a look
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade‚ Korea's foreign policy is created and put into action.
About 110 ambassadors to Korea gathered here for a New Year's reception.
The reception was also the first formal meeting between Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan and the Seoul Diplomatic Corps since Minister Kim's inauguration.

The Seoul Diplomatic Corps all listen closely to Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan's explanation of Korea's foreign policy plans for 2011.
[Interview : ] "I would like to briefly discuss the direction of the Republic of Korea's foreign policy for 2011."
Security on the Korean peninsula is of utmost importance. Foreign Minister Kim expressed his determination to resolve tensions with North Korea‚ who has engaged continuously in military provocations while preparing for yet another hereditary succession of power.
[Interview : ] "With regards to relations with North Korea‚ the Republic of Korea will continue diplomatic efforts to strengthen security while achieving tangible success in the issue of denuclearization."
He emphasized that the North must take responsibility for the sinking of the Cheonan‚ as well as the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island.
[Interview : ] "The Korean government will pursue high-level military talks between North and South Korea that will focus on responsible actions concerning the sinking of the Cheonan and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island‚ as well as assurances that such provocations will not continue in the future. Further talks will also be proposed for confirmation of the North's sincerity in its denuclearization efforts."
The second important aspect of Korea's foreign policy is diplomatic relations with emerging economies and developing countries.
The Korean government plans to continue diverse cooperative efforts with emerging economies and developing nations. Korea will participate in the African Union summit meeting‚ provide developing countries with technology and knowledge to keep developing through a specialized organization‚ and pledge more assistance in aid projects for developing countries and emerging economies.
