Here at the heart of Pyeongchang‚ ski jumpers from all over the world are soaring through the air.
A rare treat for winter sports fans the "Pyeongchang FIS Ski Jump Continental Cup" kicked off on Wednesday at the Alpensia Resort in Gangwon Province.

Having held a number of successful international events including the Winter Asian Games in 1999 Pyeongchang is now ready to become the major winter sports hub in Asia.

Thirty-nine athletes from ten countries competed on Wednesday including five Korean ski jumpers.
Even though the Korean national team fell short of winning medals‚ the team says they're more than happy to see their home country become a place where more people can enjoy their sport.

Korea] "Many people are cheering for us and showing interest in ski jumping. So to continue that here‚ we need strong training and to do well. I think by Korea hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics‚ more support and investment into ski jumping will come and that will help it become the most popular winter sport here."
With just six months remaining until the announcement of the winning city Matjaz Pungertar from Slovenia‚ who took home the gold‚ passed on his own wishes that Pyeongchang would be the host city.

] "You have jumps that are really good and everything. Hotels here are amazing. I hope you will host the Olympics."

The International Olympic Committee's evaluation commission will visit Korea in February and select the host city in a vote on July 6th‚ in Durban‚ South Africa.
The second round of the ski jumping competition will take place at the Pyeongchang Alpensia resort on Thursday.
