The financial crisis was a boon to the US Federal Reserve which marked a record profit of about 80 billion US dollars in 2010.
The Financial Times called the Fed the 'most profitable bank' in US history as it generated a revenue of 88.ONE billion dollars and ended up with a profit of 78.FOUR billion dollars in 2010 after interest and operating expenses.
Officials say the surplus will be transferred to the US Treasury Department and represents a payout 65 percent larger than the 47.FOUR billion paid in 2009.
Almost ninety percent of the income was earned from interest on 2-trillion-dollars of quantitative easing and stimulus programs.
