요약정보
On the day of the concert‚ people get busy moving the instruments to the concert hall.
The big items like the contrabass and harp are the first to be loaded and moved to the site where the orchestra will perform.
They are moved on vibration-proof trucks to prevent any alteration to the tuning.
The whole morning‚ the instruments are laid out one by one on the stage and then the musicians arrive for the final rehearsal.
First off‚ the oboe instrumentalist plays the A note‚ or "LA‚" so that the others can match and tune their instruments to the clear and steady sound.
The oboe takes the lead because the instrument is pre-tuned given the difficulty of setting it exactly right.
But at times the piano becomes the standard bearer.
There is also the standard placement of the instruments that can range from 70 to 90 pieces according to the size of orchestra.
With the maestro at the center‚ generally‚ the violin section is placed in front overlooking the audience.
Behind the stringed instruments‚ the woodwind section is often placed in the middle.
Then the brass section -- which includes horns‚ tubas‚ trumpets‚ and trombones -- is placed.
Next is the percussion section followed by the harpist and the pianist.
The placement of instruments in an orchestra is based on the individual and group sounds of each category and is said to be crucial to the sound of the ensemble.
But the placements can vary according to the conductor and the type of music.
The violinists account for as much as one third of the entire orchestra and are likened to the soprano in the orchestra.
Aside from perfecting their sounds‚ the violinists even match the swinging motions for the sake of achieving flawless harmony.
After the whole coordination work is complete‚ the orchestra is then ready to welcome the audience.
