These are dogs auditioning for the role of 'Sandy' a big stray dog which becomes a friend for Annie in the musical.
On stage‚ the ability to follow orders is a must‚ but the dog should be able to take orders from strangers too.
It can't be too shy around people since it has to work closely with the actors.
In front of the judges‚ some dogs get anxious in the new environment and surprise the owners with unexpected behavior.
This is a test to see how well the dog reacts and follows orders when all the lights go off on stage.

"Unlike films or recordings‚ the act cannot stop in the middle in a musical‚ so we tried to look for elements of focus and concentration in the dogs."
A guide dog for the blind that brings its own leash and a rescue dog that can quickly locate the injured‚ are some of the talented dogs that came to the audition.
But the original dog in the musical is a stray dog‚ so even if a dog is talented‚ if it looks too pretty or too healthy‚ it is out of the running.
Gurumi ‚ a five-year-old Labrador Retriever guide dog‚ was named the final winner.

"They are trained to be mild-tempered dogs‚ so even if children touch them or even hit them‚ they won't attack."

Gurumi will appear on stage for the upcoming musical 'Annie' in December.
