Military authorities here in Seoul estimate that North Korea's special operations forces currently exceed 200-thousand soldiers.
According to a 2010 defense ministry report submitted to a lawmaker of the ruling Grand National Party on Sunday‚ the figure grew by more than 66 percent from four years earlier and by 11 percent from 2008.
The report also claims that Pyeongyang has approximately 1-thousand ballistic missiles‚ up to 5-thousand tons of chemical weapons‚ some 700 pieces of long-range artillery and as many as 700 computer hacking specialists.
Defense ministry officials say North Korea is strengthening its special warfare unit in order to send the elite troops to the South through underground tunnels to carry out various types of attacks in case of a major conflict.
